Newton Green stormed to a convincing victory as they won the final of the Cranworth Trophy at the first time of asking.
The club had not previously reached the final of this Suffolk County Ladies' Golf Association event in the 72-year history of the competition, having lost in the semi-finals last year.
But this year they convincingly beat Woodbridge – 12-times win
ners of the Cranworth – 29.5-15.5 at Bury.
With each match having five points at stake – one point for each nine and three for the overall winner – Newton finished the morning foursomes session with a 9-6 lead.
A monster long putt from Di Cunningham on the 18th hole helped her and partner Liz Ward to a 4-1 victory over Sheila Burgess and Sue Fletch, but the opposition duo of Claire Wass and Barbara Stear hit back with a 5-0 win against Julie Iveson and Janet Sparkes.
However, Norma Humphrey and Glenys Grove countered with a similar victory over Jill Scott Nichols and Janet Capon.
In the afternoon, Ward and Iveson came home with strong victories over Burgess and Fulcher respectively. Humphrey halved her match with Wass and, although Sparkes was unable to take any points off Nicholls, Cunningham and Grove respectively beat Capon and Stear to ensure their side took the singles by a 20.5-9.5 margin.
The victory was achieved without ladies captain Margaret Hills, who had played in all previous rounds but was unable to return from a long-haul holiday in time for the final.
Mary Jenkins, team captain, said: "This was obviously a highlight in the history of our club and the team performed extremely well throughout the run, which included only one home match."
