Another fine all-round display saw Cavendish Wanderers do the double over Bury with a convincing 85-run Hunts County Bats division three win on Sunday.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bowl first. Cavendish made a useful start, with Chris Smith showing some fine attacking stroke play to see off the opening bowlers.

The bowling change proved to be his downfall as he misread a slower deliv
ery, and the hosts found themselves in some trouble at 46-4 from the first 15 overs.

This heralded the arrival of Alasdair Carnegie who gives meaning to the saying that the best form of defence is attack. Within five overs the score had doubled and a decent total looked likely.

When Carnegie fell, leg before to a ball that kept low, he and Andy Tatum had added 58 to the total. It was now Tatum's turn to play the aggressor, and he soon reached his third consecutive 50.

Debutant Sohel Hasan provided useful support in a partnership of 60 for the seventh wicket as the variable bounce in the pitch also accounted for Tatum. The home innings closed on a useful total of 183-8.

Opting to open with spin from both ends proved a wise tactic as the Bury batsmen struggled to get the ball away.

Alasdair North picked up the wickets of the top three, and control was maintained by Stuart Kevis and Nick Burton, who both bowled miserly spells and picked up three more wickets as the Bury innings became increasingly reliant on their skipper and former county player Simon Aldous.

Clever rotation of the bowling attack ensured that there would be no late recovery as Rob Finch, Harry Mills and Hasan each took a wicket to end the Bury reply with five overs to spare.
