Well, both sides are safe from the drop. For some clubs that would be an achievement. In the context of our season, it is. I thought during pre-season we would be up there or thereabouts, but it's so easy to think ahead.
I feel disappointed that we again have a mid-table finish. We again have only really been beaten twice all year in the firsts, but have gifted victories to our opponents. Our side has been badly depleted by injuries all year, but our main problem has
been lack of availabily of those who have been fit.
You can cater for injuries to an extent, but trips to theme parks and, as far as I'm concerned, pointless weekend breaks have cost us dear.
This weekend I rustled up 11 players to go to Achilles, but was left one short when Stuart Whitehart's wife went into labour. You can't control things like that. Pleased to say Isabelle Jasmine Whitehart was born at around 2.40am with no complications other than Stuart is the father. Congratulations to Stu and Lauren.
Our seconds now are fourth in the table! They bowled Melton out for 52 on Saturday with Chris Castle taking 6-31. Chris has the potential to be a big star for the club and the first eleven next year if he can make himself available every week...
Our Two Counties League season finishes this week with the firsts at home to Earls Colne who need to win to stay up.
As a local side I'd love them to stay up, but I want us to finish on a high.
During this season I've been involved in a lot at the club. I've run the bar, tried to skipper the side to success, all of which have been fun.
I find myself now looking forward to my holiday in September after the band I'm in have performed four gigs.
LMCC have been great in letting us use the clubhouse for practices throughout the year. If you like classic rock come and see us, the Lord Lucan Band. You'll be surprised at how talented we are...
The annual president's day fixture finished in a draw, just. A great day yet again from Richard Kemp saw the chairman's XI save the game.
And praise for Bill Byford and his whole family. Bill played at Achilles on Saturday, scoring 63 and putting on a league record stand with Will Clephane. Bill hasn't played all year due to back problems, but on Monday hit another 56.
His wife Shelly and daughter Danielle provided the lunch and teas for the day. I'm still stuffed. Thanks go to both for all they have done this year. The club wouldn't be the same without them.
