CHRIS Tarrant was the star show business name in a Lord's Taverners team which visited Friars Street on Sunday to take on Sudbury Cricket Club.
Tarrant, a household name on radio and television, and presenter of Who wants to be a Millionaire?, was part of a line-up studded with current and former players.

Mike Gatting, who led the Taverners when they visited Sudbury three years ago, was b
ack again.

Gatting, a former president of the Lord's Taverners, is the last England captain to win an Ashes series in Australia.

Tarrant and Gatting were joined by former Derbyshire player Paul Aldred; former Yorksire, Sussex, Somerset and England fast bowler Paul Jarvis; and former Warwickshire and England fast bowler Tim Munton.

Also in the line-up were former Hampshire right-hander Adrian Aymes; former Yorkshire, Middlesex and England bowler Chris Silverwood; and former Somerset and Nottinghamshire all-rounder Simon Francis.

Current players include Paul Nixon, wicket-keeper and captain at Leicestershire and a member of the England one-day World Cup squad; and Derbyshire's Stephen Stubbings.

Television is also represented by Charles Dale, who has appeared in Coronation Street and Casualty, and Frazer Hines. FIFA referee Steve Bennett was also in the squad.

Sudbury, led by captain Steve Witham, fielded an XI drawn from all the teams at the club.

The Lord's Taverners, a unique club and charity, gave away £1.5million in 2007 to give young people, particularly those with special needs, a sporting chance. A collection during the game raised around £4,000.
