A SECOND consecutive century by Jon Kent and a century from Jay Phillips saw Sudbury home to a 92-run Two Counties division one victory at Abberton on Saturday.
Sudbury were asked to bat first and after the early loss of Peter Siegert they took full advantage of good batting conditions as both Phillips and Kent built up a solid partnership.

Kent continued his good form and was first to reach his 50, soon
followed by Phillips.

Kent reached his second consecutive hundred with a quality pull over mid-wicket for six and was then dismissed for 117.

Steve Witham joined Phillips, who reached a well-deserved hundred before being run out for 106. Some late hitting by Witham (30no) left Sudbury on a useful score of 271-6 when their innings closed.

Abberton's reply ended on 179 all out after a disciplined performance by Sudbury in the field.

Five slip catches were taken, the first by Witham off the bowling of Kent, who then went on to take a smart catch off the bowling of Rupert Melville-Ross.

The introduction of Andy Simmons and Billy Moulton-Day broke up a useful partnership and slowed the Abberton run rate down, with the latter bowling a quick spell of one for 19 off seven overs.

The reliable Simmons, who is having a fantastic season with the ball, finished with figures of four for 28 off 13 overs, three of which were maidens.

He was backed up by some good catching. Allistair Younger took a fine tumbling catch in the deep as well as a neat slip catch.

Melville-Ross returned to pick up his second wicket and then a run-out gave Sudbury victory by 92 runs.
