A personal best throw of 27.42 metres, the longest in the competition, earned Jonathan Adams a silver medal in the open category discus at the UK School Games in Bath.
Jonathan, 15, a pupil at Great Cornard Upper, who has cerebral palsy and visual impairment, broke his previous pb with his final throw of the tournament.

"The International Paralympic Committee give points to each competitor according to their classification," he said. "The distance you throw, divided by that figure, gives the result. I could still have thrown the furthest and not got a medal."

The winner, Sean Clare (North West), claimed the gold with a throw of 19.45m, and third place went to Joshua Clark (Wales) with 20.61m.

Jonathan, ranked fourth in Europe for discus in his paralympic category, set a pb in the second of his six throws, bettering it with his last one.

"I was disappointed with silver, but pleased with the personal bests."

Jonathan, who faces surgery on an ankle in November, and four months in a wheelchair, has been invited to pass on knowledge and advice to other athletes. The invitation came after the games from Eastern Region officials.
