AFC Sudbury manager Mark Morsley has quit after directors refused to back his call for a bigger budget next season.
The club has released the following statement:
"AFC Sudbury regretfully announces that Mark Morsley has resigned from his position as first team manager. Mark joined AFC in the summer of 2006 from Needham Market and took the club to two play-off p
ositions in Ryman's Division 1 North as well as to the final in this season's Ryman's League Cup Final.
"Despite accepting an improved playing budget in April for the next two seasons, Mark met with the Board of Directors on Tuesday evening requesting further additional funds. The Board of Directors declined this request. It was much to their surprise and disappointment that Mark resigned on Wednesday morning.
"AFC Sudbury would like to thank Mark for all his efforts over the last two years and we wish him the very best for the future."
Morsley said he believed that in view of results in the last month of the season a bigger squad was needed for a promotion push in 2008-9.
"I told the directors that when I met with them on Tuesday, and asked for a budget for a bigger squad. Unfortunately they were not prepared to back that."
After thinking the situation over on Tuesday night, Morsley informed the club of his decision to resign on Wednesday morning.
"I don't have another job lined up," he said, "and I am disappointed that I'm not going to finish the job that I started. I wish the club well."
The club will be advertising the position in the non-League press.
