Rents will rise and rise again

THERE must be thousands of people like me who are council house tenants of Babergh District Council.
All of us have by now received and are paying newly assessed rents which have risen considerably since last year. My rent has been increased for 2008/9 by about £4 per week. In 2007/8 the increase was approximately £3 per week. Inflation?

Thinking that the council was cashing in on us I wrote asking for an explanation.

In their reply they state that this is due to “Government policy which will continue increasing rents until the year 2017 to match the rents charged by other Registered Social Landlords, by which time the Government believes that the rents will be fully aligned”.

So every time you pay your increased rent think how much you are helping your lovable and caring Government! There is one question unanswered and that is who gets the extra money, is it Babergh or the Government?
