I READ with interest the difference of opinion between Nick Irwin, former mayor, and manager of arguably the best pub left in Sudbury, and the police chief (Free Press, April 17).
Nick claims his customers are afraid to walk North Street at night, and the police claim there is no problem.
So who is right? These are both level-headed, intelligent men and

Nick's customers are surely not given to making up stories about being afraid to walk the streets. So what's the answer?

Well, what about those very expensive CCTV cameras which watch over the town?

Surely, if there is a problem on the streets, it should be on film?

Most drunken and offensive behaviour occurs late at night or in the early hours, times when most normal and decent people are on their way home or already in bed asleep.
So, what about a public showing of CCTV footage from late Friday night and early Saturday morning and late Saturday night and early Sunday.

If Nick is right, the footage will show bedlam on the streets with no police presence. If the police are right, it will show a harmonious and tranquil scene, with a police presence in total control. So what about it?
