I AM in wholehearted agreement with Darren Cox on the matter of parking on Market Hill (Free Press, April 24).
I too have a market stall on a Saturday and have experienced the same sort of problems.

I have even discovered that if a vehicle is parked on the Market Hill out of hours, on my pitch, the illegal parker could probably claim on my insurance for any damage, even though they are not supposed to be there in the first place.

I know from first-hand knowledge that in Bury St Edmunds they make lots more effort to show where and when parking is not legal.

Furthermore, although the powers-that-be seem to do very little to get on top of this problem, they are able to cordon off the area with barriers when we have continental markets. So I agree with Darren, let’s support our local traders and businesses and let’s have a town council that’s forward-thinking, not stuck in a tin of treacle.
