I WRITE reference an article relevant to the future of People's Park in Sudbury (Free Press, April 24).
Perhaps Chris Bown should explain to the residents of Sudbury how an historic debt of £9million has been accumulated and why they should be made the scapegoats for what would appear to be inefficient control of finances by the West Suffolk Hospital N
HS Trust.
I refer Mr Bown to an extract from Hansard, dated December 12, 1995, when the future of the hospitals in Sudbury was discussed in Parliament. There it was stated that the result of a judicial review would not stop the trust from building a hospital but the site could not be used for other NHS developments.
If the NHS Trust wish to go ahead with the building of a hospital on People’s Park or any other sites owned by them in the Sudbury area we would be very much in favour. What we do object to is the proposed selling off of this site for a further housing development.
Around 250 people recently attended a meeting in Sudbury to voice their opinions on this matter.
There is a strong feeling in our town that if we cannot have a hospital on the proposed site that People’s Park should be retained as the name suggests and the land be designated to the people of Sudbury with village green status.
