AS a Labour voter of many years, I did not fully appreciate the removal of the 10p rate of tax in last year's budget, until this week, on receiving my monthly earnings slip.
I earn just over £8,000 a year, which has increased this month by £16. Hooray, I thought, until I saw in my PAYE column that I now pay an extra £18 a month tax!

Thank you very much, Gordon Brown. I am having to pay higher council tax, petrol, food, heating and electricity prices with less income.

I just hope that the millions like me take the same step as myself and say “one lost Labour vote”.

Party of the people? Obviously rich people.

Ms E DRYSDALE
