Published Date: 17 July 2008
On Wednesday, July 9, as normal I called into Tesco to get my morning paper before going off to work. After parking I got out of my van and my attention was drawn to a car alarm going off. I thought I would do the right thing, make a note of the registration of the vehicle, and let the staff at the customer service desk know so they could let the owner know.

To my horror and disgust, on closer inspection, I saw that the owner of the car had thought it a good idea to leave two very young children, ages approximately 10 months and two years, in their child seats while she went and did her shopping.

T
his wasn't just a quick dash in and out – because while informing customer services what I saw, and deciding whether I should call the police, 10 minutes had passed, before the aforementioned stupid woman returned to her car, carrying at least two bags of shopping, got in and drove off as if nothing was wrong.

However, she may still get a call from the police and social services as it is crystal clear to me that she is unfit to be a mother of one child, let alone two.

What would have happened if this woman had been taken ill in the shop? Or worse, what would have happened if one of the children had been taken ill in the car while she was shopping?

Hopefully, the stupid woman in question will read this, if she can read, so she knows she hasn't got away with what she has done. Meanwhile, I will decide if I'm going to tell the police or not.
