What’s with all the aggression?

I feel rather sorry that many Foxearth and Liston people have made laughing stocks of themselves.

The recent parish council meetings have been embarrassing and the virulent words unnecessary.

Foxearth and Liston Parish Council can do nothing about the redevelopment of Stafford Park until there are plans put forward to Braintree District Council requesting permission to build.

After that, the parish council can give an opinion on the plans – no more than that. So why all the aggression?

Long-term Liston residents have chosen to live near a chemical factory or, more recent arrivals, near a 150-year-old heavily-polluted industrial waste-land.

It is Canute like to object to the major work which is necessary to rid our area of this blight.

The village of Liston will change but when 400 people went to work each day on the site, it was hardly a rustic paradise.

The sooner the crumbling buildings and polluted soil are a memory, the better. I just hope that the site owner and the local people can come to an understanding, or perhaps even a compromise. We deserve it.
