Nothing in law to prevent bunting

Have your say

I was disappointed to read that “health and safety concerns” are being blamed for Hadleigh Town Council banning traditional bunting to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee (Suffolk Free Press, 31 May).

Disappointed because there is nothing in health and safety law to prevent anyone from celebrating this wonderful milestone.

A fear of damaging historic buildings in the town was also cited as a reason for the ban, and therein probably lies the true rationale behind the decision – not “elf n safety” red tape.

As far as the Health and Safety Executive is concerned, the Diamond Jubilee should be a huge national celebration, a time for communities like Hadleigh to come together and have a good old knees up.

We hope an enjoyable time was had by all.
