Much-loved sign to go?

Your readers may not be aware that the striking old pub sign on the former Anchor pub in Friars Street is likely to be removed, if the owners have their way.

The Sudbury Society has consistently opposed its removal and the latest compromise proposal is to retain and reposition the sign’s bracket to support the new Javelin sign.

The old sign will likely end up in the town hall cellar, safe but unseen. The society believes that it is a much-loved feature and will be sadly missed when it is no longer there.

As Joni Mitchell used to sing, “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone”.
