Buying land was poor decision

REGARDING the future of the land behind the town hall (Free Press, June 21), it’s crazy for the town council to be paying off a mortgage costing taxpayers thousands for an asset that, for years, has been neither use nor ornament to local people.

Most folk - including councillors who were there at the time - realise that buying the land was a poor decision in the first place. It needs putting right.

There’s nothing wrong with the town council borrowing to invest in local assets but that should only happen when there’s a workable plan for it to benefit the community.
