The widow of a keen amateur archaeologist has donated his equipment to a local group.
Great Cornard resident Marilyn Matthews has given her husband Mick’s metal detecting and surveying equipment to Stour Valley Community Archaeology.
“Mick loved his digging and archaeology,” said Mrs Matthews.
“To him, all his finds were exciting, whether large or small. It was the history of the object that fascinated him.
“Mick had so many finds – a Bronze Age hoard was a great excitement to him.
“I am sure it would have been Mick’s wish to see all his digging and detecting equipment go to a group, inspiring and supporting a new generation.”
Mrs Matthews said the family was very proud that an upcoming dig by the group was going to be dedicated to her late husband.
