Thomas Gainsborough School pupil Flo Redmonds has come on top at The West Suffolk Young Jazz Musician Finalists Concert.

The concert was held on Friday, July 8, at The Hunter Club in Bury. This was the second year of the competition after a successful sell-out first year.

The competition featured four young musicians – Ben Hartick, Ollie Raymond, Katy Rochford and Flo, 14, from Edwardstone who was performing on the tenor saxophone.

Each performer got to ‘front’ the Chris Ingham Trio, which included the young musicians improvising with the band.

Flo, who is about to start her GCSE’s and is an Aldeburgh Young Musician, wowed the audience with three pieces – ‘Moose The Mooche’ by Charlie Parker, ‘Autumn in New York’ by Vernon Duke and her own composition ’Sacharrosis’ which showed real maturity.

Flo received a trophy and a £100 voucher donated by Balaam’s Music.
