IF you are a war buff, you might be interested to know that a study weekend about the Peninsular War – as depicted in the ITV drama series Sharpe – is coming to Sudbury.
It is being held at The Mill Hotel, in Walnut Tree Lane, in October and its organiser, Major Nick Hallidie, says it is the first event of its kind devoted to examining the war from the perspectives of Britain’s Portuguese and Spanish allies.
Among the speakers will be a descendant of Marshal Beresford, the British Commander of the Portuguese Army.
The event is being organised by Major Hallidie on behalf of the Waterloo Association, which was founded in 1973 to protect the battlefield of Waterloo.
The event takes place from Friday, October 12 to Sunday, October 14. Further information is available by contacting Major Hallidie 01787 880445.
