Marcus Josiah and Scott Chaplin scored as Hadleigh United defeated Oxhey Jets 2-0 to reach the last 32 of the FA Vase.

The Brettsiders, who find out today who their fourth round opponents will be, defended superbly, nullifying the threat of Oxhey’s 37-goal top scorer Lewis Putman, as they moved to within four wins of the final at Wembley Stadium.

Things are not so rosy for AFC Sudbury, whose latest defeat was a 2-0 loss to Chatham Town in Ryman League Division One North.

The Yellows are now just four points above the bottom three after a rare success for third-bottom Redbridge.

In the Thurlow Nunn League First Division, Halstead Town thrashed Long Melford 6-0.

AFC Sudbury Ladies bowed out of the FA Women’s Cup at the first round stage, losing 5-0 to London Corinthians.

Meanwhile, Sudbury’s rugby team defeated Cantabrigian 26-8 in London Three North East, moving them up a place to fourth from bottom.

In the Barclays Premier League, Norwich City survived a fightback from Swansea City to record a 4-3 victory in Wales.

Steven Whittaker, Sebastien Bassong, Grant Holt and Robert Snodgrass scored for the Canaries.

Ipswich Town won their third consecutive npower Championship match to move five points clear of the relegation zone, with DJ Campbell bagging a brace and setting up the other for Daryl Murphy.
