RESIDENTS proud of where they live are being encouraged to enter this year’s Suffolk Village of the Year competition.

Babergh District Council has already written to all the qualifying villages – those with an electoral population of up to 500 – asking them to take part before the closing date on May 27.

Jo Beever, Babergh’s community grants officer, said: “Babergh has 44 villages falling within this category and we hope that as many of them as possible will enter this year.”

The district winner will receive the Cosford Trophy, a brass plaque, framed certificate and £500 towards a community project. The overall winner will receive £1,000.

Judging for the contest will be carried out in June, with marks for community spirit, appearance and special achievements.
