BURES WI celebrated its 90th birthday with an exhibition on Thursday.
The event, held at the village community centre, featured a selection of pictures showcasing the WI’s history from its beginnings in 1921 right up to the present day.
Organiser Christine France said: “We had quite a lot of interest, which was nice. It has been a very strong WI since it began, especially during the war.”
A steady stream of visitors enjoyed the exhibition, as well as a selection of refreshments courtesy of the WI, while around 70 people showed up in the evening for the celebratory cutting of the cake.
Mrs France believes that, while the WI will always be associated with the war effort, it is still very relevant today.
“Our role has changed as women are not at home as much any more,” she said. “But we still help out on a lot of organisations within the village and help wherever we can.”
The WI meets at 7.30pm on the second Thursday of each month at Bures Community Centre.
