STOCKING up with food and newspapers just got easier in Cavendish after the village’s new community shop officially opened for business.
The shop, known as the Duck or Grouse, has been set up thanks to the hard work and determination of residents who did not want services to disappear in their community.
Now it is run by a group of unpaid volunteers, who work on a rota system seven days a week to keep the shop open.
A scheme to buy a share in the shop for £1 has also met with success. Michael Gratton, from the management committee, said: “We have had an extremely good response to the scheme and have so far had about 125 forms returned, which we think is very good.
“The share certificates are going out in the new year and we are hopeful there will be even more people who will want to support their community this way.”
