Surrounded by three generations of her family, Vera Angel celebrated her 100th birthday on Monday.

Party hats, balloons and cake were brought out for the occasion and the centenarian received a card from the Queen.

Vera, who was born in Long Melford and went to the village primary school, worked as a weaver at Vanners Silk Weavers in Sudbury.

She married husband Don in 1940 and they lived in Cavendish for the majority of their life together until 1999, when Don died. In 2009, she moved to The Willows care home in Lawshall.

Earlier this week, she was joined by daughter Pat Mansfield, her grandson and great grandson.

“Vera was a very active member of the church and enjoyed gardening,” said home manger Margaret Holt.

“She puts her long life down to hard work and good country food. She really loved her party.”
