A 15-year-old boy from Sudbury, who successfully battled a brain tumour, has won a special award for his charity work.

Charlie Williams, who attends Thomas Gainsborough School, was honoured with a special award from Babergh District Council during the Community Achievement Awards last month.

Charlie was five when he was diagnosed with medulloblastoma. After a seven-hour operation and intensive radiotherapy and chemotherapy, he was given the all clear three years ago.

Charlie was described as always being prepared to go the extra mile, striving to raise awareness and funds for Cancer Research so others get the support and treatment they need.

The unsung heroes throughout the Babergh district were celebrated for their tireless charity and community work.
