Tributes have been paid to a committed volunteer and former footballer in Halstead.
Dave ‘Ozzie’ Osborne, who wrote a book entitled A History of Halstead Town Football Club 1879-2010 died on Monday.
In a statement on its website the club wrote: “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of “Mr Halstead Town” Dave ‘Ozzie’ Osborne, who passed away on Monday 26th September.
“Dave’s association with the club followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, father, uncles and brothers who between them played close to 1,000 games for the club, and as a young boy he was club mascot in the time preceding World War 2.
“His contribution to the club was immense. In addition to his time as a player, he served as secretary and committee member for 20 years, programme editor for 30 years and match reporter with the Halstead Gazette for over 40 years.
“His knowledge of local football will never be surpassed.
“The club would like to send our deepest condolences to his widow, Jo-Anne and the rest of his family at this time of sorrow. He will be missed by everyone connected with the club.”
