Trek training to be stepped up with first half marathon

A sales assistant from Sudbury is preparing to run his first half marathon.

Mark Wright, from Uplands Road, will attempt to run 13.1 miles when he takes part in the Great North Run next month.

The event will be the perfect opportunity for the 32-year-old, who works at Winch & Blatch, to gauge his fitness ahead of a desert trek across Jordan later this year for Prostate Cancer UK.

“I am really looking forward to the half marathon and it will be good for my training,” said Mr Wright.

“It is quite daunting because it is all coming around quite quickly.”

Mr Wright said he was eager to gain sponsorship for the Great North Run, which takes place in Newcastle on September 15, in order to boost the charity total for his 40-mile walk from the Dead Sea to Petra two months later.

So far, he has raised £800 but needs more than three times this amount to take part in the trek.

“I need £2,500 and am aiming to get all my sponsors in by the end of August,” he said. “I have been training hard.”

Mr Wright has already completed a 12-hour treadmill challenge, a supermarket bag pack and launched a charity calender to bring in cash. To donate, go to www.justgiving.com/mark-wright13.
