Town store to consider creating coffee shop

A department store in Sudbury is exploring plans to create a coffee shop on its premises.

Winch & Blatch, the town’s largest independent shop, is looking into the idea in a bid to attract more customers.

The move would mean that some of the store’s departments, currently located in shops in King Street and on Market Hill, may need to be rejigged.

Merchandise director Judith Blatch said: “It is something we are considering, but that is as far as we have got so far.”

The store also has permission for a two-storey extension with a glazed footbridge linking two of its stores.

l Rumours that Costa Coffee had inquired about the former Stead & Simpson shop on Market Hill have been refuted by the company.
