JOBSEEKERS have been given a boost after a town council joined a scheme encouraging the unemployed to get back into work.
Sudbury Town Council is backing the Government’s Mandatory Work Activity Placement project, which sees people seeking employment working 30 hours a week for a four-week period.
As part of the scheme, the council has taken on five jobseekers who will carry out community work, such as painting and weeding, to experience the habits and routines of working life.
Town clerk Sue Brotherwood said: “We support any scheme which helps and encourages people back to work and that is why we have agreed to be part of this project.
“As well as providing these individuals with invaluable experience of a working routine, they will be giving something back to the community.”
