A team of archeologists, led by former Time Team presenter Dr Carenza Lewis, will be visiting Long Melford next month.

The group from Cambridge University will be carrying out excavations on the village green and glebe land for the second year running on June 11 and 12.

The purpose of the dig, which will involve a number of school pupils, is to uncover evidence of Long Melford’s Saxon and medieval past.

District and parish councillor John Nunn and historian Rob Simpson, who both founded the village’s Heritage Centre, will be co-ordinating the dig.
