A Great Cornard family held a tea party on Saturday to raise funds for an award given out by a local charity in memory of their daughter.

Before her death in 2012, Sophie Bavington had worked as a care assistant – a legacy of caring that is being continued by her parents, Tony and Carmel.

Alongside Sudbury charity the Befriending Scheme, the couple created the Sophie Bavington Young Volunteer of the Year award – helping others who need a friend.

Mr Bavington said: “We expect to have raised about £1,500 to replenish the £2,000 donated at Sophie’s funeral.”
