TWO friends are looking to earn their water wings as they embark on a 22-mile swim.

Schoolgirls Sian Lawson, from Acton and, Rosie Byron-Smith, from Springlands in Sudbury, have set themselves the challenge, which they hope to complete over the course of 12 weeks.

The pair, who both attend All Saints Middle School in Sudbury, have decided to undertake the swim to raise money for Aspire – a spinal injuries charity.

Sian said they were hoping to swim around two miles a week at the Kingfisher Leisure Centre in Sudbury, and had a good reason for selecting their chosen charity.

“A few years ago, my father, Clinton, was in a motorbike accident and he suffered a serious injury which he is still recovering from,” she said.

She added: “I think the swim will be quite tough but we are both fairly keen swimmers.”

Both Sian and Rosie started the first part of their swim last week and they hope to complete the feat by the beginning of December.
