A campaign for a lift at Marks Tey station has received a boost after an Essex MP gave the petition her support.

The online petition – launched by Sudbury resident Theo Bird – is calling for a lift or underpass at the station.

Witham MP Priti Patel, whose constituency covers Marks Tey, has lent her support to the campaign by pressing the Department of Transport for funding.

Mr Bird hopes to get 1,000 signatures before the end of the month when he submits the proposal to National Rail.

The current lack of access at the station causes difficulty for disabled passengers and those travelling with luggage.

Mr Bird said: “I am aiming to double the numbers by the end of the week.”
