Suffragettes crash statue ceremony

Suffragettes staged an impromptu demonstration during celebrations to mark 100 years since Sudbury’s Gainsborough statue was unveiled.

In recognition of the 1913 theme dozens of women, dressed as suffragettes ran out from St Peter’s with banners shouting “votes for women”, before they draped a flag around the Thomas Gainsborough statue and were rounded up by police during a ceremony on Monday afternoon.
