This year Sudbury’s Carnival Queen will receive £100 along with other prizes donated by carnival sponsors.

Entrants must be over 16. Girls aged five to 15 can enter to be Carnival Princesses. There is also a prince competition for boys aged five to 15.

The selection will take place at the Snooker club in North Street on May 20. To enter email suecreamer1@aol.com or call 07917850240.

Carnival committee member Jack Owen said: “We are delighted with the support of our sponsors who have made it possible to expand the event this year to encourage a greater number of contestants.

“The carnival itself is coming together quite nicely with a promise from Wiles Contractors to supply any vehicle within their range that may be required. We still have spaces for individuals or groups to enter the procession.”

There are still a few pitches left for the post-procession event in Belle Vue Park. To get involved email aowen197@aol.com or call 07860860193.

A craft fair is being held to raise funds for the carnival at St Peter’s Church, Sudbury, on March 25, 9am to 3pm.
