VISITORS to a Christmas street fair can expect to be transported into a magical winter wonderland.
The Lavenham Christmas Street Fair, which is taking place on December 9 and 10, will play host to an array of seasonal entertainment and activities for all ages.
Last year’s event was filmed by a French TV news channel after it selected the village as the perfect example of how the English celebrate Christmas.
Twelve months on, and the fair is once again set to be in the limelight with Anglia TV expected to screen the festivities.
Lesley Thompson, a member of the street fair committee, said: “I am waiting for confirmation, but I do hope they will come.
“The village will look fabulous and everyone is working very hard to get things ready.”
More than 50 stalls selling an assortment of crafts, toys and clothes will fill Market Square, while the historic Guildhall will stage a food hall.
The fair, which is organised with the help of many of the shops and businesses in the village, will also feature carol singers, traditional fairground rides, street cabaret and, of course, Father Christmas.
“It is such a picturesque village that it will be magical,” said Mrs Thompson, who only moved to the area a year ago.
An addition to last year’s attractions will be the appearance of two live reindeer, Bubble and Squeak, who will be in the square on Saturday afternoon along with three elves attempting to answer tricky questions on chimneys and long distance travel.
The Christmas Street Fair starts on Friday, December 9, from 6pm to 8pm, and continues all day on Saturday, December 10, from 10.30am to 5.30pm.
