SUDBURY’S Tesco store has apologised for a “miss-communication” over a council-run voucher scheme which the store refused to accept.
At Christmas, Sudbury Town Council gives out shopping vouchers to residents aged 80 and over as part of the Mayor’s Benevolent Fund.
The £35 vouchers are exchanged for goods at a number of stores, including Waitrose, Co-op and the department store Winch and Blatch on Market Hill.
But this year, an elderly resident who presented a voucher at the Springlands Way store was told it was not participating in the scheme.
A Tesco spokeswoman said: “We apologise for any confusion and we would be happy to accept the vouchers this Christmas.”
She said Tesco would meet the council to discuss supporting the Mayor’s Benevolent Fund in future.
