WALNUTTREE Hospital was the topic of conversation on Saturday when past and present staff got together for a party to celebrate “the end of an era”.
The landmark red brick building in Sudbury will close completely in a few years’ time when the town gets its much-awaited new health centre. The hospital is now only open for outpatient services.
Hospital worker Sandra Napier and her nursing colleagues decided to invite both past the present members of staff to a party at the Delphi Club, in Newton Road.
More than 150 people, including some long-serving members of staff who had worked at the hospital in the 1950s, were there to share their memories.
Sandra said: “The evening was a big success. There were lots of familiar faces and it went very well indeed.
“I would like to say a massive thank you to all of the girls who helped organise it and our band, Two Steps Twice, who were fantastic. We raised £340 in total for Breast Cancer Care.”
