A schoolgirl is now in a stable condition after being airlifted to hospital following a crash in which one man died.

Helen Harvey, a student at Hedingham School, was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital – where she is still receiving treatment – in a critical condition after she was struck by a motorbike while out walking.

The incident happened just before 8am on Thursday, December 18, near the junction where she lives in Grove Field, High Garrett.

Brian Myers, 42, from Witham, who was riding the motorcycle, was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of a blue Toyota Corolla also involved in the accident was uninjured.

The road was closed while initial investigations were carried out. Police are still looking for any witnesses to the collision.

A spokesman from Essex Police said: “Officers from the serious collision unit would like to speak to any witnesses, especially those who may have seen the motorcycle before the collision.

“It was travelling on the road from Braintree, towards Halstead.”

Anyone with any information should call the serious collision investigation unit at Essex Police on 101, or they can email collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk.
