STAFF and governors at Kersey Primary School are considering applying for academy status.
The school, which has 70 pupils, has been looking into the possibility for the last six months.
There are currently only three academies in Suffolk – Forest Primary School in Brandon, Hartismere High School in Eye and Debenham High School.
Headteacher Belinda Harvey said a decision to go ahead with the idea was still to be made.
“We have registered our interest with the Department for Education and the governors have been fact-finding,” she said.
“We see there are positives for us, with more freedom and autonomy and the ability to get better value.”
Academies have freedom from local authority control over the decisions they make and the education they deliver, including changes to the length of terms, the curriculum and setting their own pay.
