MORE than 600 music-lovers revelled in the sunshine at a festival in memory of a Sudbury man on Saturday.

Big Bear Fest, an all-day event organised to commemorate the life of Sam Bearman, 24, who died of meningitis in January, attracted visitors to Hedingham Castle, in Castle Hedingham to enjoy live music, beer and food.

Sam’s stepfather Lee Barrett said: “It was brilliant – we did fantastically well. Everyone went off wanting to come back next year and we have had some people saying it was better than V Festival.”

Mr Barrett, who helped set up the festival along with Sam’s mother Cindy Barrett and his father Dane Bearman and many others, said: “Sam’s whole life was about music and he used to enjoy festivals. If he had been there, he would have been in his element.”
