Safety first in the sun

POLICE have urged people enjoying the summer weather not to ignore security.

The current heatwave has meant doors and windows are left open, which can provide thieves with opportunities.

Suffolk Police recommends that windows are always locked when leaving the house and keys are removed and kept safe.

Front and back doors should also be locked.

Door chains and spy holes are recommended security features, while locksmiths can advise residents on the safety of patio door locks. Keys should never be left under doormats as thieves check these hiding places.

A warning was also issued about locking sheds and garages, which often contain valuable items and property, as well as leaving car windows open. Satellite navigation systems and audio equipment should be removed completely from parked cars.

Anyone with information relating to thieves operating in their area should call Suffolk Police on 101.
