Residents in Acton are encouraging dog owners to clear up after their pets after an increase in dog mess in the village.

The parish council has printed posters in a bid to remind owners to be conscientious of other residents.

Cedar Walk resident Justin Bellward described the problem as “pretty grim”.

He first noticed the dog mess in his road but said the problem was widespread across the village.

He said he was most concerned about dog poo left near Acton Primary School and the village play equipment where children can easily come into contact with it.

“I have got a lot of friends who are dog owners who are very responsible,” he said. “It is just a small minority who are not clearing it up.”

He said the parish council had been proactive in putting up posters in the hope of deterring owners.

On the walk to school with his two children, Justin said it was a case of dodging the mess – something that can be difficult with children.

“It is definitely worse at the moment,” he said. “I don’t know why. On places like sports fields, it needs to be sorted out really.”
