THE creative talents of young artists were praised as the winner of a Christmas card competition was announced.

More than 190 designs by pupils from the town’s primary schools were deliberated over by Tony Platt, the town mayor, and his team at Sudbury Town Council for this year’s Mayor’s Christmas Card Competition.

The eventual winner was seven-year-old Rachel Budd, a pupil at Long Melford Primary School.

She was presented with her winning certificate during an awards ceremony at the town hall last week.

Mr Platt said: “There was a lot of talent and it was quite a difficult decision.

“But in the end, it was obvious who the winner was, as it was such an interesting and original design.”

Mr Platt explained that the chosen design – which features a Christmas stocking, a snowman and a star – would be made into Christmas cards, which he would then distribute.

“Rachel was very excited about getting her award, as were many of the runners up,” he said. “It was a nice start to the Christmas period.”

Rachel joined Mr Platt to see her card being printed at Delta Print on Tuesday.
