A school in Sudbury is to work with a professional dance company before taking to the stage at the Mercury Theatre in Colchester.

World-renowned contemporary dance company Wayne McGregor Random Dance is to work with Ormiston Sudbury Academy, offering dance students the chance to perform in a one-off evening showcase.

The initiative will see professional dancers work with the students, who will then perform on the Mercury’s stage.

The show, entitled Random Raw, will be split into two parts, with the first showcasing each individual group’s work and the second seeing 10 dancers from the Random company perform an excerpt from Wayne McGregor’s critically acclaimed Far.

Thomas Freeth, community and education producer at the Mercury Theatre, said: “It’s an exciting first for the theatre to be working with Random Dance, which has an international reputation.

“For the young dancers involved, there is no better way to learn and be inspired than to work with professionals at the height of their career.”

Random Raw will be at the Mercury Theatre on Monday, February 2.

Tickets are £12.50. To book, call 01206 573948.
