THE landlord of the Thatcher’s Arms is celebrating after his pub received a prestigious award for the second year in a row.

Publican Mitch Adams, who has owned the pub in Mount Bures for five years, said he was “over the moon” after finding out the pub had been named the Colchester & North Essex Camra Pub of the Year 2012.

“We weren’t expecting it at all and it is quite unusual for a rural pub to win the overall award,” he said. “We are really chuffed.”

The highly-regarded award focuses on the quality of real ales a pub has on offer and sees Camra members visit a host of pubs across the region before voting on the best.

Mr Adams, 32, added: “We have lots of real ales, we run beer festivals on a regular basis, serve locally-sourced food and stick to true pub values.”
