More than 100 people packed into Long Melford Village Hall on Saturday night for a concert in aid of the village’s war memorial.

Long Melford Silver Band performed a Last Night of The Proms concert to raise funds for the restoration of the memorial at Holy Trinity Church.

The parish council needs to raise around £12,000 to repair the monument, which has become weathered.

Saturday’s concert made £710, with the band performing free of charge and the venue’s committee waiving the hire fee.

Parish councillor John Nunn said: “We still have some way to go in our fundraising for the appeal.

“Anyone willing to assist or wishing to make a donation to the appeal can phone the parish council on 01787 378084 or email me at john.nunn@babergh.gov.uk.”
