Keen pool player Pete Martin was remembered by his family and friends in a memorial competition in Sudbury.

The Pete Martin Memorial Pool Day was held at The Bay Horse in Melford Road in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care.

Around 50 competitors took part, with the pub’s landlord Charlie Drake ending up as the champion, raising £2,640 in the process.

Charlie said: “The local pool league always supported St Nicholas Hospice Care, so it seemed fitting that the money raised in Pete’s memory be donated to the hospice.”

This year, Charlie and Pete’s son, Steve, were joined by Lee and Martin Ruddock in organising the day, which also featured a barbecue and raffle.

George Chilvers, hospice community fundraiser, said: “Thank you to everyone who took part.

“Without the support of fundraisers like Pete’s family and friends, the hospice would not be able to continue to provide care and support needed by those in the final chapters of their lives.”
