STREETLIGHTS in Hadleigh will come under the bleary-eyed scrutiny of councillors today during a late-night inspection.
Six councillors will meet at midnight to have a look at the areas affected by the switch off of street lights between 12am and 5am.
Mayor Penny Cook said: “We have had a lot of complaints, from older people in Hadleigh in particular, who liked the reassurance of having those lights on.
“We’ve also had complaints that the lights haven’t been coming back on at 5am, so we will be having a look around to see how it is affecting people.
“The street lights have been a topic of conversation with a lot of people. I have been stopped several times by people asking what is going and saying it is ridiculous.”
If councillors find there are areas that may benefit from the lights being switched back on, Mrs Cook said they would be writing to Suffolk County Council to request it does so.
“It is difficult to contact the council and complain based on what someone else has said,” she added. “It’s better if we can say we have seen it ourselves.”
